Early Tuesday morning, Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a critically injured man in a late model white pickup truck. Upon arriving at a westbound pullout on Highway 74 west of McCall Park Road in Mountain Center, deputies discovered 21-year-old Jamie Godfrey of Moreno Valley wounded in the vehicle. Deputies were called out around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, and remained on scene until after 5 a.m., according to Sgt. Wallace Clear, Hemet Station special investigations supervisor.
Medical personnel transported Godfrey to the Riverside County Medical Center in Moreno Valley where he was pronounced dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
