“Political Suicide” written by Ernest Thompson, who wrote “On Golden Pond,” will be the Isis Theatre Company’s next production.

“More about life than politics, this darkly funny (and nonpartisan) evening is still an urgent reminder that each of us can and, especially now, should make a difference,” wrote Isis President and Artistic Director Suzanne Avalon.

“Political Suicide” combines four one-act plays into one charged and chuckling evening. These dark comedies parody politicians, protesters, pencil pushers and pundits.

Presidential debates were Thompson’s inspiration for “Potato Head for President.” Here he imagines taking the best of each candidate and creating one who might excite the two volunteers and eager young voters seeking some inspiration.

In “Occupy New Lexington,” a restless young man from a small New Hampshire town dreams of joining the movement.

In “Welfare Thee Well,” a recent widow, whose very wealthy husband left her penniless, has to swallow hard and find out if she qualifies for welfare only to learn that the system doesn’t make it easy on a person’s welfare or pride.

In the final act, “Rewrite,” a U.S. Senator returns to the small town where his disillusionment with American politics confronts the local newspaper editor, his most tireless supporter and critic and whose formidable path the senator one long ago night unforgettably crossed.

Performing in “Poltical Suicide” are many actors familiar to the Hill, including Mike Ahern, Suzanne Avalon, Diane Burt, Lauren Campbell, Jeri Greene, Larry Kawano, Richard Mozeleski, Christopher Murphy, Monica Reichl and Jacob Teel.

The first performance will be 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12. Followed by 7:30 p.m. shows on Saturday, Oct. 13, and Sunday, Oct. 14. Prior to curtain going up, each performance is preceded by a 7 p.m. reception. All performances will be at the Caine Learning Center, 54385 Pine Crest Avenue.

Tickets are $18 and may be purchased at the door, or online at www.isistheatrecompany.com.

There is also a Dinner Theatre Package available for $45. It includes a three-course meal at the Gastrognome Restaurant, and tickets to the play with preferred seating. More information can be found online or by calling (951) 692-9553.

“Rock the Vote” has partnered with Isis to bring Thompson’s newest play to the Hill. A portion of all ticket sales will go to “Rock the Vote.”
