Kaziah Wood of Fern Valley is in Mrs. Kyris’ third-grade class at Idyllwild School. She is a mini-member of the Pleasant Valley 4-H club. This year, she entered the Southern California Fair for the third time.
Kaziah entered her dog Matilda in the dog showmanship class. Kaziah’s friend Ben, owner of Mountain High Pet Grooming, prepared Matilda for her big day, which was very successful. In Matilda’s first show and Kaziah’s second, they received four first-place ribbons and a special award.
Kaziah also entered the Lads and Lassies class with her lamb, Lamby. She won another first place ribbon and received a special award. In a third competition, a pen of meat birds (chickens), Kaziah placed second.
Robert Garcia, owner of La Casita Restaurant, and Kaziah’s Aunt Ginny purchased the birds at auction after the judging. She plans to buy a lamb, raise it and then to show and sell it at the Indio Date Festival in February.
