International musical group Ebb & Flow will present a choral workshop for experienced and aspiring singers followed by a concert of original songs and seasonal music at the Rustic Theatre.
“The concept [of the Idyllwild appearance] is a fusion of instruction and performance,” said Gabby Gordon, singer, songwriter and pianist. Gordon is a Danish American with an international pedigree, having grown up living and traveling between Denmark, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Germany and the U.S. She began recording professionally at age 10. Her latest release was produced in Nashville by acclaimed producer Marshall Altman.
Gabby is married to Jerusalem born Ebb & Flow drummer Ronen Gordon, who also acts as her agent.
Completing Ebb & Flow is platinum award-winning Danish singer, songwriter and pianist Morton Kier, a former member of the Danish vocal group Basix that achieved fame and recording success in Denmark in the early 2000s.
All currently reside in Los Angeles. Gabby’s family now has a cabin in Idyllwild and she said she felt bringing Ebb & Flow’s instructional experience to Idyllwild could be a plus for Idyllwild’s music-loving residents. She explained that Ebb & Flow’s shared international experiences, meeting with people from all over the world and from all walks of life, have enriched and influenced their lives and music. She recounted that in their concerts, they tie their music together with personal stories — “our stories of lofty dreams, huge failures and loves lost and found, in other words, the ebb and flow of our lives.”
The vocal music workshop, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, will feature Gabby and Kier teaching three new charts to participating singers. “This is an opportunity to learn seasonal standards combined with cool warm-ups, vocal tips and vocal exercises, all in an informal, social and fun setting,” she explained. “The event peaks when the workshop participants go onstage at the end of the concert at 4:30 p.m. to perform with Ebb & Flow at the holiday matinee. The arrangements are simple and the good thing is that this all happens in one day.”
Concert tickets are $12 at the box office or online at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/967728. The price for both workshop and concert is $12.
