Candidates for local special districts could begin filing papers for candidacy this week. The first official day was Monday, May 4, for the Aug. 25 elections involving Fern Valley, Idyllwild and Pine Cove water districts, and Idyllwild Fire Protection District.
The terms of three members of the IWD board expire this year. The other three local districts have only two directors with expiring terms.
Nomination papers must be filed with the Riverside County Registrar of Voters’ office by 5 p.m. Friday, May 29. If an incumbent fails to file, the deadline for that office will be extended to 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, for everyone except the incumbent.
The ROV staff is available to help candidates complete the necessary paperwork and answer any questions. Candidates unsure about the local district offices for which they are eligible, based on residency, should contact the ROV office for help. Candidates will receive informational handbooks when they obtain their papers.
