Brian Smith, the father of Wildcats’ team member Adam Smith, gave this update on Adam’s recent game.
Last week, the age 14-and-under Wildcats faced off against the higher-level AA Lady Ducks in a pre-season exhibition game in Orange County. The Lady Ducks started the scoring about six minutes into the first period. They scored their second goal with just over four minutes to go in the first period. They held that 2-0 lead until the closing minutes of the second period when they chipped in their third goal, rebounded their fourth, and seconds later, shot in their fifth, ending the second period up 5-0.
In the third period, the Lady Ducks scored three more goals. Although the Wildcats had several good scoring chances from Idyllwild’s Adam Smith, as well as Caleb Leora and Max Nordhausen, the Lady Ducks’ goaltender was on fire, leading her team to the 8-0 shutout win.
Hopefully, playing higher-level teams like these AA and high-school teams will pay off when the Wildcats play against teams in their own division during the regular season. The Wildcats’ next game is a home game on Saturday, Sept. 17, at L.A. Kings Icetown, 10540 Magnolia Ave., Riverside.
