All proceeds support scholarships for local women and girls
Soroptimists International of Idyllwild holds its annual fundraiser Basket Festival and Spaghetti Dinner on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
Featured baskets are worth a minimum of $1,000 with many valued at nearly $2,000. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20.
When one buys tickets (at the Idyllwild Post Office or the Town Crier), they drop the ticket into a container with the name of the basket or baskets they want to win. Baskets this year are: Wine and Dine, Kids and Family, Mountain Spa, Adventure, Man Cave, Mountain Garden and, the too often overlooked (and maybe underbid), Mystery Basket.
As teasers, some of the items contained in the baskets include:
• Adventure Basket includes one-night stay and dinner for two (up to $250 value) at the Agua Caliente Casino Spa and Resort, backpack from Nomad Adventures, camping tent from Hiking Adventures, and archery lessons and horseback riding, together valued at more than $1,800.
• Kids and Family Basket is highlighted by four Disneyland Park Hopper tickets (over $600 value), 2018 Family Season Pass to Lake Hemet Recreation and two, one-hour guitar lessons with Don Reed.
• Wine and Dine Basket includes two weekend passes to 2018 Jazz in the Pines, gift certificate to Wilson Creek Winery and gift certificates to almost every restaurant in town.
• Man Cave includes beverage-centered items including gift certificate to the Idyllwild Brew Pub, gift certificate to Idyllwild Bake and Brew, Yeti cooler from Idyllwild Heating and Cooling, and a signed Harley Davidson print.
Bingo games for door prizes held during dinner are new this year. Dinner, which is free and begins at 5 p.m., includes spaghetti (meat, vegetarian and gluten-free), salad, ice cream and beverages.
Basket drawings begin at 6:30 p.m. The event is held at Buckhorn Camp, 24641 Highway 243. All proceeds benefit the Soroptimist House of Hope and support scholarships for local women and girls.
