Friday evening, Feb. 23, a single-family home burned on Azalea Trails Road, north of Pine Cove.

The fire was reported about 5:45 p.m. Cal Fire, the Riverside County Fire Department and the Idyllwild Fire Department all responded.

The structure fire was contained about three hours later at 9 p.m. No injuries were reported, but the early damage assessments estimated the costs to be in the neighborhood of $300,000. Two adult residents are displaced until the repairs are started and completed.

According to Cal Fire, the fire’s cause is under investigation.

  1. The Cal Fire report is incomplete. Two adults, two children, and two dogs were displaced from this fire. Several other responder companies were on the scene and some fire units returned the following day to put out hot spots. The home was destroyed, the fire was contained and did not spread into the surrounding wild land.

  2. Hmm. Private On-site fire water was not usable. It had to be brought in,Frozen pipes. Private water companies( and there are a few) that use wet barrel hydrants up here doom their customers in the winter as they freeze.
