Done in by a double bogey at the 16th hole on Saturday, Brendan Steele missed the cut at the PGA Championship by a single stroke. For the two days, his drives averaging more than 305 yards found 67 percent of the fairways, and he hit 72 percent of the greens in regulation. But he gave back about 0.8 strokes per round putting.

The native Idyllwilder now is 36th on the FedExCup points list and 67th in the Official World Golf Ranking.

The Town Crier has learned that Brendan intends to play out the season schedule, including this week’s Wyndham Championship, in Greensboro, North Carolina, then immediately into the four post-season FedExCup tournaments: The Northern Trust in New Jersey, The Dell Technologies Championship in Massachusetts, the BMW Championship in Pennsylvania and, if he by then qualifies, the Tour Championship in Georgia. He’ll have to raise his FedExCup standing by 6 positions to qualify for that final event.

Brendan tees off this week in the Wyndham on Thursday at 4:50 a.m. PDT and Friday at 9:50 a.m. PDT. He’ll play both days with Rod Pampling and Ernie Els.
