Two non-injury crashes on Hill roads over the last week.
At 3:55 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6. Michael Beebe, 61, of Moreno Valley, was driving a silver 2004 Ford Explorer northbound on Highway 243, ½ mile north of Franklin Drive in Pine Cove. At the same time, Julio Neto, 39, of San Diego, was driving a white 2012 Toyota Prius southbound on 243, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Beebe failed to negotiate a curve, causing his Explorer to cross the yellow line and collide head on with Neto’s Toyota Prius. The California Highway Patrol report indicated the road conditions were cloudy with snow. As a result, both vehicles were travelling at road-condition appropriate speeds. The head-on collision caused damage to both vehicles, requiring both to be towed by Idyllwild Garage. But neither Neto nor Beebe was hurt in the crash.
At 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, Joshua Becerra, 17, of San Jacinto, was driving a white 2015 Hyundai Accent westbound on Highway 74, 4 miles west of McCall Park Road in Mountain Center. At the same time, Matthew Devore, 37, of Hemet was driving a white 2015 Chevy Silverado eastbound on 74, when Becerra allowed his vehicle to cross over the double-yellow lines on the highway causing the vehicle to sideswipe Devore’s Silverado.
According to the CHP report, road conditions were dry with good visibility. No alcohol was found to be involved in causing the crash. Both vehicles had moderate damage and required towing — the Hyundai by Idyllwild Garage and the Silverado by Pirot’s Towing in Hemet.
