Caltrans District 8 is alerting the traveling public that the National Weather Service is predicting rain in addition to snow in lower elevations to arrive Tuesday, Feb. 5, from afternoon through the night. The storm will produce lower temperatures and possible snow levels down to 1,500 feet affecting the afternoon and evening commute tomorrow. Winds up to 40 mph and low visibility also are expected.

Motorists should be aware that snow accumulation and ice may be possible on the following state highways during the third storm event:

I-15 from Devore to the High Desert and in Mountain Pass at State Line.
I-10 from Yucaipa to Banning.
State Route 62 (SR 62) in higher elevations such as Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree.
State Route 74 (Ortega Highway) between Lake Elsinore and Orange County.
State Route 79 (SR 79) from San Jacinto to Beaumont.
State Route 60 (SR 60) from Moreno Valley to Beaumont.
All mountain routes, including SR 74 from Hemet to Palm Desert.
I-15 from Elsinore to Wildomar if snow at or below the 1,500-foot elevation.Motorists are reminded to be alert, slow for weather conditions and use headlights while driving. Avoid travel during storm events and check road and weather conditions before you travel. Motorists should anticipate delays and longer travel time. The San Bernardino Mountain regions have Caltrans permitted and trained chain installers available during chain control. Motorists must carry chains or other legally approved traction devices. Chains are not allowed on non-mountain routes.

Stock vehicles with water, snacks, blankets, a charged cell phone, flashlight and a full tank of gas before going to mountain regions.
