Mark D. Smith is Idyllwild’s new postmaster and follows a proud tradition dating back when Benjamin Franklin was the first postmaster of the United States.
Smith replaces Ray Wilson, who retired in June.
In 2011, Smith began his postal career as the postmaster relief in Donald, Oregon. He was promoted to postmaster in Marylhurst, Oregon in 2014. He served as postmaster in Hoonah, Alaska before his promotion as postmaster in Idyllwild.
“I am honored to be the postmaster of Idyllwild and take the responsibility to serve the community every day,” said Smith. “I look forward to helping our community any way I can.”
Smith received his master’s in education and Bachelor of Science in psychology from Washington State University.
He resides in Idyllwild with his wife Sarah and their two rescue dogs Rábano and Chia. He enjoys cooking and baking bread and is an avid crossword fan and enjoys movie trivia.
