Brendan Steele posted 68-73-64-66 — 271 to finish tied for 32nd place in The American Express PGA golf tournament played on three courses in the Coachella Valley last week.

The Idyllwild native’s drives averaged 307.5 yards, finding 75% of the fairways, and he hit more than 80% of the greens in regulation, amassing an eagle and 24 birdies against only nine bogeys on the way to a 17-under-par scorecard. He moved up to 112th in the PGA Tour’s current FedExCup Standings and 120th in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Brendan tees it up again this week in the $8.7 million Farmers Insurance Open played on the Torrey Pines courses in La Jolla. Through The Century Club of San Diego, which administers and promotes the tournament, monies are raised for various youth-oriented charities in the San Diego area. The opening round in this tournament will be Wednesday morning with the tournament finishing Saturday afternoon to avoid conflicting with Sunday’s two televised NFL conference championship games.

B will tee off Wednesday at 9:10 a.m. PT and on Thursday at 10:10 a.m. PT, playing with Sam Ryder and Zac Blair both days.

The Farmers Insurance Open will be telecast on the Golf Channel, with CBS joining in on Friday and Saturday. You can follow Brendan shot-for-shot with TOURCast on the pgatour.com website or with the PGA Tour cellphone app.
