Palms to Pines Golf Association (PPGA) President Pete Capparelli recently presented the awards to the group’s two Club Champions. Steve Olson won the championship for the A-flight and Dan Morgan won for the B-Flight. They played in the Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) Tournament of Club Champions earlier this month.
Each year, official SCGA member groups compete for the Club Champion title, and at the end of the year, the SCGA holds the Tournament of Club Champions at a number of courses in Southern California.
Olson played his tourney at Desert Falls Country Club in Palm Desert and Morgan played at Cimarron Golf Resort in Cathedral City. While they didn’t win, it was a thrilling experience to compete at the regional level.
PPGA, based in Idylliwild, holds tournaments once a month at a different course in the area — Hemet, Temecula, Moreno Valley, Meniffee and the desert. Members accrue points each month based on where they place in the tourney, for example 6 points for first place, 4 points for second, 3 for third, 2 for fourth and 1 for fifth. At the end of the season, the top eight point finishers in the A-flight and B-flight go into playoffs for club champion.
