Winery to host IDY LilithRock Fair

Women’s History Month comes to Middle Ridge Winery the weekend of March
22 to 24, as a team of Idyllwild’s well-known sisters in song present
three special shows. They are calling the weekend “IDY LilithRock Fair,”
combining a nod to Sarah McLachlan’s Lilith Fair with a reference to
Idyllwild’s own Lily Rock, teasing the possibility of a new tradition.

Sandii Castleberry tells the Crier she had an idea reflecting on women’s
“journey of empowerment and progress: Wouldn’t it be nice to get some of
our local female musicians together, and through performance celebrate
this theme through a musical timeline? Songs such as Carole King’s
‘Natural Woman’ celebrates feeling good about oneself, while Tammy
Wynette’s ‘Stand by Your Man’ reflects a different era in women’s
self-esteem and evolution.

“The songs we have chosen to perform will cover a mixture of themes,
from songs written or performed by Tammy Wynette, to Joni Mitchell, and
even a song by Beyonce. Middle Ridge Winery has kindly offered us the
venue to perform, and is sponsoring our endeavor.”

About the Friday night lineup, Castleberry said, “There are six women
from our mountain participating, each one with a different musical
background. Each has chosen several songs to perform that reflect the
theme. All of us will contribute musically or vocally as requested by
the musician arranging the song. Our first rehearsal was full of energy,
excitement and laughter as we reflected and discussed what these songs
mean to us.”

The six women involved in Friday night’s program are Monica Sierras,
Sandii Castleberry, Sarah Kay, Anne Finch, Jamie Guthrie and Mo Mullins.
Saturday, March 23, vocalist and violinist Lily McCabe will join
Castlelberry and Anne and Barnaby Finch. Sunday, Francesca Brown will
play her “country flavored” original music.

Friday night’s show is from 4 to 7p.m., Saturday’s from 3 to 6 p.m. and
Sunday’s from 2 to 5 p.m.
