U.S. Forest Service and CAL FIRE units responded to a small brush fire on the west side of Highway 243 in Pine Cove, which was reported at around 3 p.m. today. The fire burned about a quarter of a mile south of Franklin Road.

The cause of the fire was unknown and is still under investigation, USFS Incident Commander Fred Espinoza said.
