Grupo Bohemio, the opening act of the 17th Idyllwild Summer Concert Series, presented their exciting mix of Latin and American rock that got most concert-goers on their feet and delighted. Idyllwild author Eduardo Santiago kicked off the sixth-annual Idyllwild Authors Series with Meri Nana-Ama Danquah, author of “Willow Weep for Me: A Black Woman’s Journey Through Depression.” Danquah was born in Ghana and came to the United States at the age of 6. She related her many challenges as an author, mother and a black woman who was “supposed to be strong” but suffered from a debilitating disease. The series is Sundays at Café Aroma starting at 4 pm. The two new Art Alliance of Idyllwild board members are Jacque Swerdfeger and Zack Steinhaus. Steinhaus is past-president for the Royal Pines Homeowners Association, and led security for Animal Rescue Friends. Prior to moving to Idyllwild, he had been a teacher since 1980, the last 21 years of his career as a vice principal of vocational education. Swerdfeger also is a retired teacher. A self-taught artist, she learned to paint while living an isolated existence in the outback of Australia. Her 23 years in education included developing an art curriculum for homebound senior adults. As a trainer she also helped secure government contracts and mentored teachers through workshops at San Diego State University. Photo by Shanna Robb

Famous Idyllwild actor Conor O’Farrell served as emcee at Wine in the Pines on Saturday, July 9, a fundraiser for the Idyllwild Community Fund held on the grounds of the Rainbow Inn. O’Farrell is preparing to attract more bids for his offer of a chance to have dinner with him and his wife, Holly. (He removed his shirt.) ICF raised several thousand dollars, including $500 for the opportunity to dine and to converse with the O’Farrells. Photo by Tom Kluzak
