Snow, Christmas Tree lights arrive together

The annual Idyllwild Christmas Tree Lighting had another successful year Saturday. Young and old came from all over to celebrate, enjoy the snow and share in the beginning of the holiday seasons.

Last Saturday, April 27, around 1:30 p.m. I fell on Tahquitz Rock above Idyllwild in Southern California, on a route called Fingergrip, the 5.8 slab/dihedral pitch above the “Jungle Ledge,” a very easy climb for me. I was a hand’s reach from the bolted anchor when I slipped. I was injured in the fall and quite helpless after it. I had to be rescued.

On the morning of Aug. 23, a tree fell and blocked the Ernie Maxwell Scenic Trail. The above photo was taken that day. The photo below was taken on Labor Day. Robert Haine said this about his hike, “The trail is still passable, with a little climb over the fallen trees.”
Nearly 100 turned out to the community meeting that Mountain Disaster Preparedness organized to educate residents about the purchase and use of generators. Opening the meeting, MDP President Mike Feyder and Idyllwild Fire Chief Patrick Reitz stressed both the frequency of power outages and the length of them are going to increase in the future….
