Beloved Idyllwild resident and minister, Rev. Dr. Betty Patricia Jandl passed away on Wednesday, March 13, in her sleep at age 93. A long-time Idyllwild resident, she considered it her “true” home.
More than 30 years ago she founded the Idyllwild Church of Religious Science, now known as the Idyllwild Center for Spiritual Living.
Born Nov. 27, 1925, in Colorado, she was an only child and what her parents referred to as a “miracle baby.”
She met her husband, Frank Jandl, in Denver and they had two daughters, Camilla and Charissa.
The family enjoyed many adventures, moving around the country for Frank’s jobs in the aerospace industry. Betty was very active in the PTA, Sunday school and later, working at Crocker Bank in many capacities.
Frank retired in the early 1980s. He and Betty took a drive to Idylwild, instantly fell in love with the community and vowed to move there, which they did.
Mom founded her church and went on to become an ordained minister and received her doctorate. Her ministry lasted more than 30 years and touched so many lives.
Betty will be remembered for her loving heart, invaluable inspiration and unending compassion.
She is survived by her two daughters, known as Kim and Kris; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 26, at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside. All are welcome to attend.
