Coyote Fire
The Coyote Fire was reported at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, June 2. The location of the fire was Old Banning Idyllwild Road south of Shirleon Drive.
Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department reported at 8 p.m. June 2, “The fire has burned approximately 60 acres with a moderate rate of spread. The fire is currently burning in medium fuels with wind out of the west. Cal Fire/Riverside County Firefighters, with assistance from USFS – San Bernardino, responded to reports of a vegetation fire in the area of Old Banning Idyllwild Road south of Shirleon Drive in Banning. Crews are on scene of approximately 50 acres of medium to light fuels burning on a northern slope. Ground and air resources are on scene. Updates will be posted as information becomes available.”
The fire had been reported by Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department as 75 acres.
The agency tweeted at 5:25 p.m. Thursday, June 3, “Due to more accurate mapping, the fire is 43 acres and is now 90% contained.”
Full containment of the fire was reached by 2 p.m. Friday with the agency reporting, “Fire resources have been released” on its incident website.
The resources assigned to the incident were one helicopter, a helitender, 14 engine companies, five overhead personnel, a fire investigator, four air tankers, five fire crews, one water tender, two bulldozers and 140 firefighters.
