Board of Supervisors has new officers for 2024

At its first meeting in 2024, on Jan. 9, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors elected new officers for the year.

3rd District Supervisor Chuck Washington is the board’s chair for 2024 and 4th District Supervisor V. Manuel Perez is the new vice chair. He served as chair during 2020.

Besides vice chair, Perez also will represent the county at the California State Association of Counties. Among the many committees and commissions on which he will serve are the Local Agency Formation Commission and Children and Families Commission.

He also will be a member of the Registrar of Voters and the Short-term Rentals Board ad hoc committees.

The supervisors are not only cordial and courtesy to each other, but friendly, if not friends. As an indication of the good relations between them, prior to the formal vote for new officers, Kevin Jeffries (1st District) and the 2023 chair, said that he “asked where I would sit when Chuck bumps me out of my chair? Make sure I’m still at the dais.”

After the formal approval of Washington becoming the new chair, Jeffries congratulated Washington on succeeding him, then announced, “My first motion is to move to contest the election.”

As people laughed, Washington responded, “If you were not here last year, this is payback. It’s what I did to him.”
