    Initial Thoughts: Open government? …

    By April 18, 2013May 23, 2013 Reading Time: 2 minutes

An article about the Forest Service’s 2014 budget begins on page 1. The level of funding appears comparable to the current year, 2013 (Oct. 1, 2012 through Sept. 30, 2013). However, that appearance is deceiving. The 2013 figures are based on a continuing resolution which provided budget authority for the balance of the fiscal year….

Hazard waste dumped illegally near the ‘dump’

    By April 17, 2013May 23, 2013 Reading Time: 1 minute

On the way to the dump — or transfer station — local resident Pat Smith saw a truck parked on the side of the road not far from the entrance of the transfer station on Saunders Meadow Road. Pet Obituary: Springwood’s Spirit of Kula

    By April 17, 2013May 23, 2013 Reading Time: 2 minutes

She bounded into our life amidst sadness and immediately won our hearts. We knew, from the start, this little “spirit of gold” … “Kula” is the Hawaiian word for “gold” or “yellow” … was not just any puppy. It didn’t take long for her to catch up with our 2-year-old, Benika, and become the “alpha of the pack.” She was so smart and loved people so much that we soon realized she belonged at “The Spruce Moose.”
