Idyllwild’s triathletes — Brad Rechtfertig amd Bill Whitman — competed last weekend in the San Diego International Triathlon.

This event offered both an international and sprint race. The international course included a 1,000 meter swim, a 30K bike ride and ended with a 10K run. The sprint course was composed of a 500 meter swim, a “hilly” 20K bike ride, and finished with a 6K run.

Rechtfertig finished second overall in the sprint and first in the men’s 35- to 39-years-old group.

Whitman finished fourth in his age group (men’s 45- to 49-years-old) and 43rd overall in the international competition.

“I was happy with my results, which were 5 minutes faster than last year,” Whitman said. His time this year was 1:42:53.
