Brendan Steele and his fellow pros shredded the TPC Summerlin course in Las Vegas last week during the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Steele fired a 15-under par 66-65-69-69 — 269 to garner a tie for 16th place and a payday of more than $61,000.

Almost all aspects of the Idyllwild native’s game were working well; his drives averaged more than 305 yards, he hit 76 percent of the greens in regulation and he used 28.5 putts per round.

Steele is now in 45th place on the PGA Tour money list this year, with official winnings of more than $1.8 million. This was the sixth time he has posted a score in the top 20 of a PGA tournament this year.

If he sticks to his present tournament schedule, he’ll have just one more opportunity to improve his position in this week’s $5 million Frys.com Open at the CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, Calif., where the winner’s share is $900,000.
