Jim Crandall, Palms to Pines Golf Association handicap chair, gave this report about the Friday, July 17, regular monthly golf tournament held at Menifee Lakes Country Club’s Lakes course. It was a hot day and the course was in good shape.
Dave Robb (course handicap 15) and Scott Schroeder (22) tied for first place with net 69s. Pete Capparelli (25) was alone in third place with a net 70. And John Brower (9) and Jerry Daquila (24) tied for fourth with net 71s.
The closest-to-the-pin winners on the four par 3s were Ken Garelick on hole no. 3, Crandall on hole no. 8, John LoGiudice on hole no. 13 and Schroeder on the 17th hole. Brower won the low-gross side pot with his gross 80.
This tourney also was the final tourney of the season to determine the top eight point finishers who playoff for the title of 2015 Club Champion. These matches are played during regular tournaments in August, September and October.
The top eight point finishers (in order) and finalists for Club Champion are Robb, Brower, Crandall, Capparelli, Daquila, Lee Lanfried, Barry Wallace and Gary Brown.
The quarter-final playoffs begin in August. The top seed plays number eight, the second seed plays the seventh, the third and sixth seeds meet and the fourth and fifth are matched against each other. The pairings will be

2. Brower vs. 7. Wallace
3. Crandall vs. 6. Lanfried
4. Capparelli vs. 5. Daquila

Points are awarded at each tournament as follows: first place, 6 points; second place, 4 points; third place, 3 points; fourth place, 2 points; fifth place, 1 point. Also, one-half point is awarded to everyone who participates.
A member has to compete in at least five regular-season tournaments to qualify for the playoffs.
The club is a member of the Southern California Golf Association and is sanctioned to establish SCGA handicaps for members.
