Jim Crandall, Palms to Pines handicap chair, gave this report on last week’s Palms to Pines golf tournament:
Palms to Pines Golf Association co-founder George Kretsinger showed up in his own golf cart to tag along for a few holes during the club’s regular monthly tournament at the Palm Desert Resort Country Club on Friday, Nov. 18. Kretsinger, who has a condo on the course, has been recovering from serious health issues and has a hard time walking. But sitting at the wheel of his golf cart, he was able to drive along, offer unsolicited advice and told bad jokes to club President Pete Capparelli, Crandall and member Bill Sanborn. Great to have you along, George!
It was a beautiful day in the desert, with mild temperatures, clear skies and light winds. The course was in excellent shape.
John McAndrews (course handicap 37) came in first with a net 67, Gary Leong (13) took second with a net 70, Chuck Alkire (12) took third with a net 71, John LoGiudice (22) took fourth with a net 74, and John Brower (9) and Robert Priefer (22) tied for fifth with net 76s.
Of the four closest-to-the-pin contests, Alkire won two and Leong won two. There was no long drive competition.
