Town Hall Sports Coordinator Jeremy Teeguarden reported on youth basketball for both the College League (kindergarten through third-grade) and the Pro League (third- through sixth-grade) for the week of Jan. 16.

College League (Kindergarten through third-grade)
The Monday night, Jan. 16, College League basketball games got started with the Village Hardware Blue Devils taking on the Rotary Wildcats. The Wildcats’ Levi Davis and Blue Devils’ Manuel Guzman hustled all over the court. The Wildcats pulled away in the end and won 16-10: Wildcats 16 (Cody 16); Blue Devils 10 (Michael 10).

The next game, between the Gastrognome Gators and the Idyllwild Vacation Rentals Wolverines, went in to overtime. Lucas Odum and Katelyn Sonnier each had a big basket for their teams. The Gators squeeked out a 15-14 win: Gators 15 (Preston 8, Lilah 5, Katelyn 2);
Wolverines 14 (Ethan 12, Lucas 2).

Friday night’s basketball games saw the Rotary Wildcats take on the Idyllwild Vacation Rentals Wolverines. Layton Teeguarden scored 14 points for the Wolverines and Oden Johnston played great hustling all over for the Wildcats. Layton scored a basket for the Wolverines to force overtime and then did it again to force a second overtime. The Wildcats kept fighting and eventually earned a 20-18 win: Wildcats 20 (Cody 20); Wolverines 18 (Layton 14, Ethan 4).

In Friday’s second College League game, the Village Hardware Blue Devils and the Gastognome Gators played. The Gators Lilah Whitney played great scoring a nice basket and Aiden Mclean played great for the Blue Devils. The Gators went on to win 18-6: Gators 18 (Preston 14, Reese 2, Lilah 2); Blue Devils 6 (Michael 4, Fiona 2).

Pro League (Third- through sixth-grade)

On Tuesday night, Jan. 17, there were two basketball games in the Pro’s League. The first game matched the Fairway Market Lakers against the Roby Gray Construction Cavs. Shelby Read and Carolyn Edelstein each scored nice baskets for their teams. The Lakers played well and remained undefeated with an 18-6 win: Lakers 18 (Isaiah 10, Stephen 4, Pierce 2, Carolyn 2); Cavs 6 (Shelby 2, Payton 2, Aaron 2).

Tuesday’s second game was between the Town Crier Clippers and the Idyllwild Automotive Grizzlies. While both teams struggled to score in the first half, the second half was a different story. Warmed up, both teams caught fire.

Alia Teeguarden played great defense for the Clippers and Arie Reyes scored four points for the Grizzlies. The Clippers pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 23-16 victory: Clippers 23 (Ben 8, Chayton 8, Vinny 7); Grizzlies 16 (Zach 12, Arie 4).

On Friday, Jan. 20, the first game in the Pro’s League was between the Fairway Market Lakers and the Idyllwild Automotive Grizzlies. The Grizzlies looking for their first win played great defense all game. Max Neu played great defense for the Grizzlies and Seth Clowers played outstanding at point guard scoring a key basket. The game came right down to the end. The Grizzlies held on for their first win 18-17. It was the Lakers first loss: Grizzlies 18 (Zach 12, Arie 6); Lakers 17 (Isaiah 14, Seth 2, Stephen 1).

The last game of the night pitted the Roby Gray Construction Cavs and the Pino Tree Service Heat. Both teams played solid defense all night. The Cavs’ Josh Gray led his team and the Heat’s Miren Pino played great. The Cavs built an early lead but the Heat fought back and won 12-11: Heat 12 (Jake 6, Fernando 6); Cavs 11 (Garrett 6, Payton 2, Aaron 2, Jake 1).
