Town Hall Sports Coordinator Jeremy Teeguarden reported on Town Hall Adult softball for the week of Aug. 13.
On Monday, Aug. 13, Pacific Slope Tree Company and Ajax played the first game of a three-game series. The game was a defensive battle the whole way. In the early innings, Pete Holzman lead Pacific Slope with his hitting and scoring two runs. Ajax did not falter and the game was tied 5-5 entering the sixth inning. Raymond Marcus hit a two-run homerun to give Ajax the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ajax played solid defense in the seventh inning and won the game 8-5.
On Tuesday, Creekstone Inn and Forest Lumber began their three-game series. Both teams played great defense and struggled to score runs. Matt Cox scored one of Forest Lumber’s three fourth-inning runs, as they took the lead 3-2. Creekstone Inn stayed close thanks to Kelly Cochrane’s two hits. In the sixth inning, Jon Miller’s two-run home run gave Creekstone Inn the lead 4-3. Creekstone Inn held the lead and won the game.
On Wednesday, Pacific Slope Tree Company and Ajax met for their second game of the series. Pacific Slope’s Jeff Donahoo got the scoring started in the first inning as they took a big early lead. Pacific Slope lead 9-1 after two innings and never looked back as they won the game 13-4 to tie the series at one game each.
On Thursday, Aug. 16, Creekstone Inn and Forest Lumber played their second game. Forest Lumber had to play shorthanded and hung in there for the first few innings thanks in part to Jeff Adams, who scored three runs. Creekstone Inn took a while to get going but in the later innings took control of the game as Jessica Priefer scored three runs to lead the way. Creekstone Inn won to win the game 19-8 and advanced to the championship series.
The deciding game in the series between Ajax and Pacific Slope Tree Company was played Thursday. Pacific Slope played shorthanded and stayed close in the early innings. Kirsten Torrez hit great for Ajax scoring three runs as they put the game away in the seventh inning with five runs. Ajax won the game 12-6 and advanced to the championship series.
The championship series, between Creekstone Inn, the top seed, and Ajax, the third seed, started Tuesday, Aug. 21, and continues Wednesday. The third game, if necessary, will is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 23.
