On Sept. 8, local triathlete Bill Whitman ran in the San Diego Triathlon Classic. He finished first in his age group, men between 45 years and 49. His total time of 2:16:36 for the three events of the Olympic distances placed 20th out of 752 participants.
The Olympic Triathlon is composed of a 1500 meter swim, a 40K bike ride and a 10K run on the trails.
Running the same day but in the Sprint Division was Lee Piche, of Idyllwild and Temecula. He also finished first in his age group (men between 55 years and 59) and fifth overall in the sprint, with a time of 1:17:30.
The sprint components were a 750 meter swim, a 20K bike ride and 5K run on the trails. There were 172 competitors in the sprint.
