Jim Crandall, Palms to Pines Golf Association handicap chair, provided this report about the Friday, Sept. 21, golf tournament.

The club held the second round of playoffs for the Club Championship and its regular monthly tournament at The Country Club at Soboba Springs. The day was hot. The course was dry, with many brown fairways, but the greens were in good shape.

Playoffs

In the second round of match-play playoffs, Bob Stearns (course handicap 19) beat Gary Leong (15) with the final putt on the final hole to win the match one hole up with none to play. Stearns was in the match because Robert Priefer, who tied Stearns in the first round of playoffs last month, conceded to Stearns.

Chuck Alkire, who beat Bill Ragland last month, received a bye this month and didn’t participate in the tourney.

The club champion will be determined next month in a match between Stearns and Alkire.

Regular 2012-13 Tournament
In the regular tourney, Bill Sanborn (26) shot a net 67 to take first place; John LoGiudice (15) shot a net 69 for second, Dan Slattery (25) took third with a net 71; and there was a three-way tie for fourth between Crandall (9), Scott Schroeder (19) and Stearns (19). All three players earned a net 73.

In the four closest-to-the-pin contests, Schroeder won on hole 4, Stearns won on hole 8, and Crandall won on holes 13 and 15.

Here are the current point standings for the 2012-2013 season.
