Idyllwild’s Lauren Salter competed in the second North American Cup stop in Calgary, Alberta.

In the first Women’s Skeleton Race on Nov. 15, Salter finished 13th, with a combined 2-race time of 1:59.01 (59.83, 59.18).

“I placed 13th in my race, not where I wanted to finish, but I had two huge personal records on my downtimes,” Salter said in an email. “It was a new experience having 6 runs on a new track before racing on it!”

She is one of the youngest American racers and this was her first attempt on the Calgary track, which was built for the 1988 Olympics. Her fastest race was only 1.4 seconds behind the best race time of the day.

The next North American Cup skeleton competition will be on the 2010 Olympic course in Whistler, British Columbia from Dec. 7 through Dec. 9.
