Jan. 29, 2004 – April 9, 2013
She bounded into our life amidst sadness and immediately won our hearts. We knew, from the start, this little “spirit of gold” … “Kula” is the Hawaiian word for “gold” or “yellow” … was not just any puppy. It didn’t take long for her to catch up with our 2-year-old, Benika, and become the “alpha of the pack.” She was so smart and loved people so much that we soon realized she belonged at “The Spruce Moose.” With the exception of a handful of “sick days,” during the past year, for 5-1⁄2 years, she greeted and interacted with almost every human … and human companion … that crossed our threshold. We quickly became accustom to customers saying “I’m here to see Kula” or “Where’s Kula?” or “Is the dog here today?” In 2012, which turned out to be a very tough year, health wise, she ran for Mayor of Idyllwild. While she did not win, we were very proud of the financial contribution her presence made to ARF, being named Idyllwild’s official “Director of Pet Tourism” and becoming one of Mayor Max’s biggest fans. It broke our hearts to let her go, but we knew it was the right thing to do … the best thing for her! The love and memories from her life will stay with us for the rest of ours!
Donations in Kula’s memory may be made to ARF or Sadie’s Clinic.
