Robert P. Stearns

Robert P. Stearns of Idyllwild and Palm Desert passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013.

Son of Howard and Codie Stearns, brother of Tom (Barbara) Stearns, husband of Gisela and father of Maria, uncle to Lett, Bryan, Mark and Scott.

Bob was co-founder of SCS Engineers in Long Beach in 1970. He was president at SCS Engineers for 36 years and retired in 2006.

He attended the University of Iowa and graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering.

The Pacific Palms Resort Project earned the “Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement” of the year award from the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1981.

Bob was inducted into the Environmental Industries Association “Hall of Fame” in 2003. He was named a “Professional Achievement Award — Life Member” by the Solid Waste Association of North America in 2009 and served the American Society of Civil Engineers in many capacities, including as chairman of ASCE’s National Ethics Committee.

A memorial service will be held in September. Details will be published on www.scsengineers.com.
