Brendan Steele scored his second consecutive top-15 on the PGA Tour last week in the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C. The Idyllwild native posted a 9-under-par 71-67-66-67 — 271, earning a tie for 11th place, 63 FedEx Cup points and $116,600 in official prize money.

He scored 20 birdies against nine bogeys and one double last week, the unfortunate double bogey coming on his 72nd hole. Those two extra shots cost him a top-5 finish, about 40 FedEx Cup points, and around $70,000 in prize money. Ouch.

Steele is now in 81st place on the FedEx Cup points list, which earns him entrance into The Barclays, the first of the four FedEx Cup Playoff tournaments, and most probably into the Deutsche Bank Championship, the second tournament of the series. Entrance into the third and fourth tournaments of the series will depend upon his performance in the first two.

Steele will tee it up Thursday in the $8 million The Barclays on the Liberty National Golf Club course in Jersey City, N.J. The winner’s share of the prize money will be more than $1.4 million.
