

Large branch falls, lands on car, causes power outage

A large branch fell across Hemstreet around 7:50 p.m. Sunday night. Wet, heavy snow caused the branch to snap, landing on a black sedan and arching the power lines and causing power to go out in the area. Idyllwild Fire responded to the incident to block the road from traffic while awaiting for SCE to arrive.

About 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, an unidentified man from Hemet apparently had a seizure and drove his white 2005 Toyota Corolla into a parked silver 2015 Honda Civic on Ridgeview Drive, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Graham Annestad. The Civic was parked in front of Suburban Propane. The Corolla driver was transported by Idyllwild Fire ambulance to Hemet Valley Medical Center in stable condition. No other occupants were involved as there were no passengers in the Corolla and the Desert Hot Springs owners of the parked Civic were not able to be located. Idyllwild Garage towed both considerably damaged vehicles.
The Mountain Communities Fire Safe Council (MCFSC) was awarded a grant to continue the San Jac Fuels Reduction program. The new phase began Nov. 1 and will include Pinyon Pines, Garner Valley, Mountain Center, Idyllwild, Pine Cove and Poppet Flats. The grant is for $200,000 with a matching amount of $200,000. At about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, power lines went down across Tollgate Road near Delano Drive due to extreme weather conditions. A small fire was sparked due to the live wires.
