Hemet cross-country finishes first at invitational
The Hemet High School Boys’ freshman cross-country team finished first, against 14 other teams, in last week’s Mt. San Jacinto Invitational. Here, from left, are Jayden Emerson, Tanner Torrez and Chad Schelly. Tanner finished first, Jayden was eighth and Chad was 20th, competing against 168 other freshman runners.
Hemet High x-country competes in Mt. Carmel Invitational
The Hemet High School Cross Country running team competed in the Mt. Carmel invitational last weekend. As the race began, three Idyllwild boys — (from the left) Jayden Emerson, Tanner Torrez and Chad Schelly — started together. Running against 285 other freshman from throughout Southern California and Arizona, Torrez finished 10th, Emerson was 11th and Schelly was 91st.
Steele inducted into UC Riverside Athletics Hall of Fame
Scored a top-25 last week; will play in PGA Championship next Brendan Steele’s university alma mater paid tribute to his athletic prowess by inducting him into its Athletics Hall of Fame this year. Brendan Steele notched his seventh top-25 finish on the PGA Tour this season, posting an eight-under-par 68-66-69-69 — 272 at the Travelers Championship at Cromwell, Connecticut last week.
