I have been a member of the Art Alliance for several years and have had my work displayed in two local galleries. I am sad to say they are both out of business.
Since becoming a summer resident, I have seen the number of galleries decline, thus reducing venues for showing local artists’ work. Idyllwild has lost its edge of being one of the foremost art towns.
The 2nd Saturday Art Fair has managed to allow local artists a venue to display and sell their artwork. During the last three years, I have witnessed the fair’s growth under the leadership and enthusiasm of Kim and Scott Finnell. It has become an event.
The outreach off the Hill has been outstanding. I ask people where they are from when they visit my booth. The responses are many and the majority are from San Diego, Orange County and Hemet. Obviously, this kind of outreach is a benefit to the community and the local artists.
The Finnells have worked diligently to bring Idyllwild an art event that both the artists and the community can be proud of.
The 2nd Saturday event is a chance for locals and visitors to enjoy art.
