I’m sure everyone will agree, our Independence Day parade is one of our great, small-town Idyllwild traditions. The Idyllwild Rotary and all the volunteers are to be commended for such a wonderful parade.

One incident gave me pause, however: A woman marching in the parade waved an American flag that was so large she couldn’t help but occasionally drag it on the ground. She didn’t just let the tip touch the pavement, but she really dragged it.

I’m sure the entrant meant no disrespect, but the bottom line is that she dragged the flag on the ground numerous times.

The U.S. Flag Code states: “The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.” We all should respect our flag.
