Jim Crandall, Palms to Pines Golf Association handicap chair, provided this report on the Friday, July 8, golf tournament, played at the Temecula Creek Inn golf course, on the Stonehouse to Oaks links.
This is the last tourney of the season. These results helped determine the final top-eight point finishers, who begin the playoffs for the club championship in August, September and October.
The course was very challenging, especially the nine holes of the Stonehouse links. Many of the shots are blind, shooting uphill over a rise that prevents you from seeing the fairway. Also, narrow, sloping tree-lined hillsides were partnered with well-bunkered, fast greens.
Dave Robb (course handicap 14) took first place with a net 67. John Brower (11) took second with a 72. Crandall (16) took third with a 73, and there was a three-way tie for fourth among John LoGiudice (22), Lev Sanford (24) and Scott Schroeder (21), all with net 77s.
The closest-to-the-pin winners on the four par 3s were Robb on Stonehouse 3, Brower on Stonehouse 5, Bob Baker on Oaks 3, and Barry Wallace on Oaks 6. Robb won the low-gross side pot with an 81.
The top eight players qualified for the stroke play elimination playoffs to determine the 2015-16 club champion. The playoffs will occur over the next three months.
The club champion will then go on to play in the Southern California Tournament of Club Champions in December.
The first round of the Palms to Pines Championship will have four pairs of golfers vying to advance to the semifinals. The initial pairings for the first round of the championship are:
