Jim Crandall, Palms to Pines Golf Association handicap chair, provided this report about the association’s regular monthly tourney in August and the beginning of its year-end playoffs.
Idyllwild’s Palms to Pines Golf Association held the regular monthly tourney in conjunction with the first round of playoffs for club champion on Friday, Aug. 18, at the Golf Club at Rancho California.
The playoffs had the top 8-point finishers face off for the association’s annual championship. This year, play-off contenders were Peter Holzman, Lee Lanfried, Dennis Chavez, Barry Wallace, Crandall, Pete Capparelli, Ken Garelick and Dave Robb.
The play-off format pits the top-point person and the eighth, the second point total faces the seventh, the third plays the sixth, and number four and five play each other.
In the first round of the playoffs, Robb (course handicap 13) beat Holzman (14), Capparelli (26) beat Chavez (9), and Garelick (25) beat Lanfried (26).
Crandall (14) and Wallace (14) could not play until Aug. 30 and their match was played at The Country Club at Soboba Springs. Crandall left the course as the victor.
The semi-finals will be later this month when Robb will face Capparelli, and Garelick and Crandall will meet. The winners play for the club championship.
