Brendan Steele managed a 5-over-par 73-69-70-73 — 285 at the WGC Bridgestone last week. His stats showed booming drives averaging 333 yards, but which found only 29 percent of the fairways. He still managed to hit 61 percent of the greens in regulation, but, perhaps still getting used to a new putter grip, he averaged giving away most of a stroke to the field each round in putting.
This week the native Idyllwilder plays in the $10.5 million PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, the fourth and final of the four “majors” this season. He goes into it ranked 33rd on the FedExCup points list and 60th in the Official World Golf Ranking.
Brendan tees off Thursday at 11:43 a.m. PDT and Friday at 6:18 a.m. PDT.
