Jim Crandall, Palms to Pines Golf Association handicap chair, provided this report about the association’s regular monthly tourney in November.
Idyllwild’s Palms to Pines Golf Association held its November tourney on Friday, Nov. 16, at Menifee Lakes Country Club. It was a beautiful fall day with partly cloudy skies and comfortable temperatures, and the course was in good shape.
Competition was keen and players’ scores were close. Gary Brown (course handicap 15) and Norm Kyriss (8) tied for first with net 74s. Third place was a two-man tie, too. Pete Capparelli (19) and Lee Lanfried (24) tied with net 75s, one stroke behind the winners. Then, fifth place was a three-way tie: Paul Cozens (12), Pete Holzman (14) and Bob Wadlow (14).
In the B flight, no ties occurred. This group is golfers with a handicap index of 24.4 or above as of Aug. 15. Don DePalma (38) shot a net 76 for first place; Barry Zander (37) was second with a 78 score. Jerry Daquila (26) shot 81 for third. Tony Viola (25) was fourth with an 85 final and David Hiemenz (34) rounded out the top five with a net 86.
The winners of the closest-to-the-pin contests on the four par 3s were Wadlow on hole no. 4; Barry Wallace on hole no. 7; Holzman on hole no. 12; and Daquila on hole no. 15.
