Brendan Steele posted a 2-over-par 69-73-75-73 — 290 last week to place tied for 37th in the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio. The Idyllwild native’s statistics suggest that his driving accuracy and greens-in-regulation performance has been improving, which is good news with the U.S. Open coming up.
Then, on Monday, in a 36-hole, one-day qualifying event for next week’s U.S. Open, Brendan posted an 8-under-par 67-69 — 136 on two courses in Columbus, Ohio, to tie for 6th place among all competitors. That scoring was plenty good to qualify, so next week we’ll see him in action at Torrey Pines in La Jolla. The U.S. Open was previously played at Torrey in 2008 when Tiger Woods won on a broken leg in a playoff with Rocco Mediate.
Brendan has this week off and will no doubt spend it preparing for next week’s U.S. Open.
