Steele cut in Phoenix; plays Riviera next
Brendan Steele turned in rounds of 75 and 68 to post a 1-over-par 143, which missed the cut by three strokes at the WM Phoenix Open last week.
For the two days, the Idyllwild native’s drives averaged just under 319 yards while finding only half of the fairways, and he managed to hit two-thirds of the greens in regulation, but his putter cost him nearly a stroke to the field per day.
Brendan remains at 38th on the FedExCup points list.
Brendan plays this week in the $12 million The Genesis Invitational at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, near Los Angeles. This tournament originated 96 years ago as the Los Angeles Open, which has been held on many different courses in and around L.A., but has been played nearly continuously at the Riviera since 1973. Ben Hogan won this tournament three times, including back-to-back in 1947 and 1948, and his statue adorns the Riviera premises.
B will tee off on Thursday at 12:43 p.m. PT and on Friday at 8:08 a.m. PT, playing both days with Wyndham Clark and Brandon Hagy.
The tournament will be telecast on the Golf Channel and also on CBS on the weekend. You can follow Brendan shot-for-shot in 3D with TOURCast on the pgatour.com website or with the PGA Tour cellphone app.
