AAI spreads Christmas cheer

The Art Alliance of Idyllwild (AAI) is poised to hold its third annual Christmas Art Kit Gift Giveaway Saturday, Dec. 3. AAI offers local parents and students the opportunity to choose one to two age-appropriate free art kits and materials. More than 200 gifts are divided into age groups of 4 to 7, 8 to 12, and 13-plus with gift wrapping available, too. College students are encouraged to stop by for a selection of professional art kits and materials designed especially for older students.

The giveaway starts at 1 p.m. and continues until all the kits have been given away. This year’s project is supported by grants from the Ruth and Joseph C. Reed Foundation and the Idyllwild Community Fund.

AAI also provides creative joy throughout the year. Here is a list of the grants that it has given during 2022:

• Five art scholarships to the Idyllwild Arts Summer Program: $10,000

• Classes at Idyllwild’s Mountain Pottery: $870

• Funding for home school art classes from September to November: $1,200

• Idyllwild School’s eighth grade Legacy Tile Project: $600

• Special screening at the Rustic Theatre of the award-winning documentary “Women of the White Buffalo” by Deborah Anderson: $300

• Jennifer Savino’s children’s book “Smokey’s Adventures of an Awakened Heart”: $500

• Provision of an art hanging system for Town Hall: $600

• Marla Capra theater class tuition at Idyllwild Arts for two students

• Creative Connections Community in support of the Lego Robotics Club STEAM education program: $4,000

• 2023 Idyllwild Summer Concert Series: $2,000

• Mayor Max calendar: $2,000

• Christmas art kit gift giveaway: $3,500
