Creature Corner

By Janice Murasko

Last week in “Days of Our Nine Lives,” ARF cats and kittens talked about Lilac’s adoption.

Harley: Another announcement! Katnis was adopted, and she now has the perfect home.

Pepper: Woohoo! That is such good news. Maybe it portends well for the rest of us.

Phil: Oh, that is a good thought.

Don: Let’s use the kittens to draw in potential adopters.

Harley: You know, the man who adopted Katnis originally came in for a kitten, but when he met that beautiful girl, he was sold.

Rosie: I guess I don’t mind being used as a lure. You never know, the visitors could fall for me.

Phil: Or me!

Delight: Seriously, who could resist me.

Don: Now that fall is right around the corner, it would be such a good thing for a family to adopt a warm, fuzzy kitty to keep them company.

Starlight: And keep them warm, too.

Twilight: I think so many potential adopters would be pleased to know that all ARF cats are spayed or neutered.

Don: No one can possibly accuse us of adding to the cat explosion problem.

Harley: It is such a relief to know that ARF cats are safe from

Starlight: Living with an intact cat — male or female — is not an especially pleasant experience, I’ve heard. From what I know, intact cats of both sexes are serious about territory, status, and sex. Under the influence of their hormones, they roam and fight (especially males).

Twilight: Right, and thanks to their teeth and claws, they are perfectly capable of maiming or killing one another.

Don: If a cat isn’t kept indoors, it can disappear for days in search of a mate and may come home with bite abscesses and other wounds from fights.

Starlight: Wow. That is very scary!
