Rudolph Karl Zachar, 66, of Idyllwild, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Zachar was born June 16, 1934, in New York, N.Y. Mr. Zachar served in the military from 1953 to 1957.

He and Mary, his wife of 45 years, moved to Idyllwild 14 years ago and have been owners of Mile High Country Inn for 13 years.

Between 1983 and the early 1990s, Mr. Zachar turned his woodworking passion into the Joy of Toys, a toy store featuring Mr. Zachar’s handmade creations.

He had many other avid interests, including model train collecting, of which he had an extensive collection.

Lately, he had been remodeling many of the rooms in the inn, learning as he worked.

He enjoyed domestic travel. The Zachars crisscrossed the United States many times.

No services are planned and Mr. Zachar’s remains will be scattered at sea off the coast of San Diego County. Miller-Jones Mortuary in Hemet is handling arrangements.

Along with his wife, Mr. Zachar is survived by two daughters, Anita Broyles and Audrey Zachar, both of Lakewood; two sons, Christopher Zachar of Orlando, Fla. and Rudy Zachar of San Luis Obispo; a sister, Jacqueline Morrow of Dublin, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.
