After missing the cut two weeks ago in the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Conn., Brendan Steele last week posted 13-over par 71-76-74-76 — 297 in the AT&T National in Bethesda, Md. He tied for 68th place while earning $13,130 in official prize money.
The Idyllwild native collected 8 birdies against 17 bogeys and two doubles on a tough track on which only 14 players broke par. Steele has now earned more $600,000 in official PGA Tour winnings this year, placing him in 101st place on the tour money list and 120th in FedEx Cup points.
He will not have an opportunity to improve in either of these categories this week because he will not be playing in this week’s PGA Tour tournament.
Instead, Steele accepted an invitation to play in this year’s French Open in Paris, where he tied for 7th place 2011.
