Dogs get first-paw experience in snake training
By

During the Rattlesnake Avoidance Training on Saturday, Axel, owned by David Cavanaugh, walks right up to this Southern Pacific rattlesnake (which is muzzled with medical tape and drained of its venom). Erick Briggs, trainer, takes the dogs through several stations, beginning with meeting a baby rattler, learning the scent of a rattler by some rattlesnake skin on the ground, a rattler rattling behind a rock, and finally encountering an adult rattler on the ground in front of them. The event was held at the Community Center site. Photo by Barbara Reese

On the last Thursday of January, and on the clearest and coldest of evenings experienced here on the Hill, Lowman Concert Hall presented two Idyllwild Arts Academy students’ senior recitals traversing the piano repertory of the 19th and early 20th centuries. These works and their presentations were advertised as being “in partial fulfillment” of the…...
The Idyllwild Community Center’s free annual Easter Egg Hunt returned to the County Park after last year’s snow cancelation. The sun cooperated this time, and the meadow and parking area were dry enough. The Riverside County Parks and Open Space District provided the manpower to direct parking, a bounce house, and a children’s craft table, supervised…

The newspaper never received a response….

This was the strongest shake from a series of nearly 475 tremors from Monday through Thursday. The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the shaking reached a 6 on its scale, which signifies strong…....
The Riverside County Board of Supervisors moved one step closer to becoming an electric-power provider for the unincorporated areas of the county, largely replacing Southern California Edison. In 2002, the Legislature passed Assembly Bill 117, which authorized local governments to procure or develop electrical power for themselves or their residents and businesses. In the 15…
Michael Creighton is the new general manager for the Idyllwild Water District, but IWD is neither a new location nor work for Creighton. In the late 1970s, he handled wastewater testing for IWD. Living in Idyllwild, he joined the board in 1983 and left 14 years later in 1997. While on the board, he served…
