Brendan Steele posted a one-over-par 72-72-72-73 — 289 on the TPC San Antonio course last week to tie for 46th place and earn $16,580 in official earnings, bringing this year’s total to $352,695 to date. He also garnered 22 more FedEx Cup points to raise his season sum to 261.

For the Idyllwild native, the Valero Texas Open last week was remarkably similar to the Shell Houston Open the week before. Again the Idyllwild native bested the tournament field average in greens in regulation with 67 percent. Again his proximity to the hole was not as good, which too often gave him long birdie puts, making it difficult to score.

Steele did finish strongly on Sunday, however, with birdies on three of the final five holes. He now has made the cut in eight out of nine tournaments entered this season.

Steele has this week off while the Masters Tournament is played in Augusta, Ga. He is expected to return to action either next week in the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head, S.C., or the following week in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
